GREEN-TECH SUPPORTS DTMS WITH SUSTAINABLE LANDSCAPE SOLUTIONS FOR GOOLE TOWN CENTRE REGENERATION
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Goole Public Realm Project is a phased regeneration scheme designed to improve key areas across Goole Town Centre, including the railway station, market hall, library and pedestrianised high street. The project combines hard and soft landscaping enhancements to create greener, more attractive and sustainable public spaces for residents, visitors and businesses.
DTMS Group delivered the soft landscaping works, including the installation of Hydroleca drainage media within modular planters, the supply of topsoil, the planting of 2,000 perennial and herbaceous shrubs, and the application of bark mulch. These improvements introduce greenery throughout the town centre, enhance biodiversity and strengthen the visual appeal of key public spaces.
THE CHALLENGE
The project required healthy, long-lasting planting within confined urban planters. Creating suitable growing conditions was essential to support plant establishment, while ensuring effective drainage, moisture management and weed suppression.
GREEN-TECH INVOLVEMENT
DTMS Group selected Green-tech’s specialist landscape materials to create optimum growing conditions within the planters. The products formed an integral part of the planter build-up, supporting healthy root development, sustainable planting and long-term resilience.
GREEN-TECH PRODUCTS USED
Hydroleca lightweight clay aggregate was used as a drainage layer within the planters. Its porous structure provides effective drainage, aeration and water retention, helping create a balanced environment for healthy root growth. Green-tree Topsoil was supplied as the primary growing medium, with approximately 18 tonnes used across the project. Manufactured from recycled organic materials, it provides a fertile, consistent rooting environment while supporting sustainable landscaping practices. Scotbark Ornamental Bark was applied as a surface mulch to retain moisture, suppress weeds and regulate soil temperatures, while providing an attractive finish to the planting areas.
IMPACT AND OUTCOME
The Goole Public Realm Project demonstrates how high-quality landscape materials can support successful sustainable public realm schemes. The new planting has enhanced the town centre environment, improving biodiversity, supporting pollinators and creating more welcoming green spaces.
The combination of effective drainage, sustainable growing media and moisture-retaining mulch has helped establish resilient planting in a challenging urban setting.
